About Ubiquinol Supplements
Ubiquinol is the active form of what most of us know as Coenzyme Q10 or COQ10. In order for our body to utilise COQ10, it must first be converted to ubiquinol, much as folate must be converted to 5-MTHF. Ubiquinol helps us to overcome one more biochemical step, making the supplement potentially more effective than standard COQ10 preparations. Research is starting to emerge showing a clear benefit from this activated form of supplement. For instance, the Parkinsonism and related disorders journal published some original research in 2015 indicating the effectiveness of ubiquinol at 300mg per day for the management of parkinson's disease. Another research paper published in 2013 by the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition demonstrated the effectiveness of 300mg per day ubiquinol in boosting peak power production in Olympic athletes. This is quite a significant finding, given that these are already highly trained elite althetes whose peak power production is well above that of a normal individial's.
As more funding for research emerges into the seemingly miraculous benefits of Ubiquinol, we will start to see what this unique endogensously synthesized nutrient can really do. Stay tuned!
