About Chlorella Supplement

Chlorella is a blue-green algae native to Japan and Taiwan with an exceptional nutritional profile. Chlorella offers a wide range of health benefits and contains up to 7% chlorophyll, a natural detoxification agent often sold in pure form. Chlorophyll reduces the toxicity and hyperproliferative effects of dietary haem, which is found in red meat. This was reported in Carcinogenesis back in 2005. It is believed that the toxic effects of haem may in part be responsible for the high incidences of colon cancer. Chlorella is a rich source of protein, at 60.5% by weight, and contains the nine essential amino acids. Though given that only a small portion of chlorella is consumed, the contribution to daily protein needs is small.

Chlorella is rich in beta carotene, a provider of an important nutrient called vitamin A (retinol). Beta Carotene is composed of two molecules of vitamin A, linked together. Chlorella also contains an entire B complex, and is a particularly rich source of Vitamin B2 and B3. It also provides decent amounts of iodine, magnesium, iron, zinc and calcium. This makes chlorella a helpful nutritional aid, that may be taken to supplement a healthy diet, much like a natural multivitamin and mineral.

Chlorella has been scientifically researched countless times, with many of the biological actions having been unravelled. This algae may assist with the management of high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, inadequate immune system health and poor wound healing. This was reported in the Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine in 2001. This creates some interesting applications for such a safe and readily available supplement.

Chlorella is a nutrient-rich algae that may be taken during times of high nutritional demand, such as with increased physical activity or when the diet is lacking. Additionally, it may be taken to support general health or to boost energy levels. Often, it is taken as part of a heavy metal chelation therapy to aid in the removal of toxic substances from the body, such as mercury and cadmium. Chlorella may also assist with the removal of pesticides and herbicides. Chlorella is most commonly taken in tablet form for convenience sake, however pleasant tasting powdered products are available, often mixed with other green powders, such as barley grass and wheat grass.
