About Acne Tablets & Supplements

Acne vulgaris is one of the most despised adolescent health complaints due to the fact that it can affect the face and ones appearance. Though acne commonly affects adolescents, it can impact all ages, sometimes occurring later in life. A more extreme form of this condition is cystic acne, which is highly inflamed and may leave permanent scarring.

Acne is an inflammatory skin issue that may be related to infection of the skin, hormonal imbalance, dietary allergens and nutrient deficiencies. Many natural health supplements may be used to alleviate the causes of acne, while others promote healing of the skin once the blemishes subside. Blood cleansing herbs, such as Burdock and Marigold, are helpful for this condition. Traditional herbal medicine highlights the importance of a healthy relationship between blood and skin for the management of this condition.

Other natural immune supportive nutrients, such as zinc and vitamin A (retinol), may be helpful to support the immune system in fighting off any bacterial infection in the skin. Zinc may also be specifically indicated in order to reduce the activity of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone. This latter form of testosterone has been shown to be elevated in the skin in acne vulgaris. Zinc is also indicated for the healing of damaged skin and to prevent permanent scarring.

Natural anti-inflammatory herbal medicines and nutrients may also provide some benefit, such as white willow bark and curcumin (found in turmeric). Quercetin and other natural bioflavonoids may be of benefit as well. Dietary interventions are essential to managing this conditions, such as excluding common allergens and increasing the intake of fresh food.
