About Soluble Fibre Supplements

There are two types of fibre that are naturally found in a wide range of foods: Insoluble fibre and soluble fibre. Both are important for optimal health, though each of them supports the body in a slightly different way. Soluble fibre functions as a prebiotic, feeding the beneficial bateria that live in our gastrointestinal tract. Prebiotics support the growth and healthy replication of these helpful bacteria that colonise the digestive tract. Two of these beneficial bacteria are the well-known acidophillus or bifidobacteria. However, there are literally thousands of cultures essential to the health of the microbiome in the digestive tract. Soluble fibre is naturally found in high amounts in the bark of a tree called Ulmus rubra, also known as the Slippery Elm Tree.
