About Motion Sickness Supplements

If you've ever experienced motion sickness before you know just how nauseating it is. Particularly when you're stuck out in a boat in the middle of the ocean. There's no escape! Signs and symptoms for motion sickess include nausea and vomiting, and sometimes even anxiety. The causes of the condition is not fully understood. However, a neurotransmitter imbalance in the brain has been implicated as one possibility.

One of the most commonly prescribed herbs for this condition is Zingiber officinale, commonly known as Ginger root. The American Journal of Physiology published a small placebo-controlled randomised clinical trial in 2003. The researchers showed that ginger root can be effective in preventing nausea in motion sickness prone individuals.

Natural anti-histamines may also help to provide relief. The neurotransmitter histamine has been linked to a worsening of symptoms in motion sickness sufferers. If you are an allergy sufferer, it may be helpful to strictly avoid trigger foods leading up to an event that may cause motion sickness. Common food triggers can be dairy, gluten and nuts, though this varies from person to person. Generally keeping a healthy diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables would be ideal. This approach may assist in reducing histamine levels.

Natural anti-histamines, such as quercetin and vitamin C, may be helpful. Ideally, supplements should be started in the weeks leading up to the event.
