Nutra-Life Nutra-Zinc is a high potency Zinc formula providing 25mg of elemental Zinc per capsule from Zinc Amino Acid Chelate combined with the support nutrients (vitamin and mineral base) needed for absorption and utilisation in the body.
Zinc activates more than 100 diverse enzyme systems and is required for wound healing protein synthesis, growth and development, insulin activity and the formation of healthy bones.
Zinc is an important mineral for men's health as men's ability to absorb zinc declines with age. It is especially important for prostate health and the management of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Zinc reduces the conversion of 5-alpha-reductase, the enzyme responsible for the conversion of testosterone to di-hydro-testosterone (proliferative form) involved in BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) an enlargement of the gland associated with age in some men.
Zinc deficiency may be associated with decreased sperm mobility and decreased serum testosterone levels. High levels of Zinc may be lost in male ejaculatory fluids and could exacerbate or lead to a zinc deficiency, thus Zinc supplementation may be beneficial to infertile men.
Zinc acts in the utilisation of nitrogen and sulphur in the production of protein and the synthesis of DNA. As both DNA and RNA require Zinc-containing enzymes for production and function, Zinc is an important factor in the processes of cell division and growth.
Zinc is required for the release of insulin from the pancreas, and low zinc levels have been noted in diabetics who excrete the mineral faster than non-diabetics. Zinc is also involved in the release of Vitamin A from liver stores.
