About Evening Primrose Oil Supplements
Evening Primrose Oil is a natural plant extract that contains linoleic acid and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). GLA is responsible for most of evening primrose oil's benefits. Evening Primrose Oil is commonly used for the management of: PMS, poor skin health, menopausal symptoms, rheumatoid arthritis, acne, infertility and hormonal imbalance.
A research paper published back in 2000 by The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition supported Evening Primrose Oil's ability to naturally reduce inflammation in Rheumatoid Arthritis. This assisted with the symptomatic management of the condition. The International Journal of Cosmetic Science published research in 2005 showing how this natural oil also dramatically improves skin hydration, elasticity, roughness, fatigue protection and firmness. This places Evening Primrose Oil high on the skin-health and anti-ageing supplement list, along with products like hydrolysed collagen.
Evening Primrose Oil is often used to treat PMS signs and symptoms relating to fluid retention, breast tenderness, acne, low mood, headaches and poor focus and concentration. Given that this product is a significant source of Omega 6 fatty acids, when supplementing long-term it is best to boost Omega 3 intake as well with a quality fish oil product, flaxseed (linseed) oil or chia seed oil. This is due to the fact that most diets already have a high Omega 6 to 3 ratio.
