About Eczema Tablets & Supplements
Eczema, or atopic dermatitis, is an inflammatory skin condition that results in itchy, red, cracked skin. It is an atopic disease, which means that an allergic response is involved which is initiated by the immune system. Other atopic conditions are asthma and hayfever.
Many supplements based on natural nutrients and herbal medicines can assist with the management of eczema. For instance, EPA is a fatty acid naturally found in algae and fish which has anti-inflammatory effects and may assist with eczema. EPA is stored in the body, within cell membranes. Supplementation slowly changes the fatty acid composition of our body, making long term supplementation important for the best results. Supplementing with EPA helps to displace and replace other fatty acids that are inflammatory, such as arachidonic acid.
Fish oils need to be supplemented daily in addition to increases in dietary Omega 3 content, with reductions in Omega 6 levels. This is the best approach to experiencing the full health and skin promoting benefits. Other nutrients that can be helpful for the management of eczema are zinc, quercetin, vitamin C and probiotics. Zinc may assist in skin healing when the lesions clear up, and may help to prevent permanent scar tissue formation. Quercetin is a natural anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy bioflavonoid with a long list of benefits for many chronic and atopic conditions.
