About Probiotics Supplements
The term probiotic is Greek in origin and means for life, which is not surprising given the role these miniscule orgamisms have to play within the human body. The health benefits of probiotics have been studied reasonably well over the past few decades, though scientific knowledge is still in its infancy due to the sheer quantity of bacteria and health effects there are to scrutinize.
Probiotics are beneficial bacteria or cultures that primarily grow within the gastrointestinal tract. These microscopic organisms offer many health benefits, which varies depending on the type of culture. Some of the benefits associated with probiotics discovered so far are: weight loss, immune system regulation, cholesterol balancing, reduced insulin resistance, neurological health and improved digestion and absorption.
The absility to digest and absorb food efficienctly is incredibly important for maintaining wellness and optimal health. Without proper digestion and absorption, even a high quality diet can lead to a poor nutritional status. Poor digestion can also lead to common GUT complaints, such as bloating and excessive gas.
Probiotics have been obtained through a wide range of traditional foods within different cultures, such as kefir, saurkraut, kim-chi and kombucha. Given that probiotics are now available in a highly concentrated form, such as powders and capsules, this ensures fast restoration of beneificial bacteria strains, which can be especially important after antibiotic therapy.
