Magnesium has long ben used for muscular spasms, cramps and twitches, which are an indication that magnesium levels may be low. Magnesium may also assist with painful period cramps and intestinal cramping, as this powerful mineral relaxes the smooth muscles in these areas.

This formulation does not include magnesium oxide, as this form of magnesium has a low bioavailability and can cause loose stools due to magnesium losses via the bowel. Instead, well-tolerated and highly bioavailable forms of magnesium are included in this potent product, which are Citrate, Orotate, Aspartate, Chelate, Glycinate and Phosphate.

These six compounds are what the magnesium is attached to in the powder. For instance, one molecule of magnesium citrate is made up of one atom of magnesium attached to one molecule of citric acid. Citric acid is a constituent of the citric acid cycle, and may therefore assist in the generation of energy or ATP. Another commonly used form of magnesium is epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) for bathing, however this form is poorly absorbed when taken orally. 

Roughly 99% of magnesium found in the body is located in tissues such as muscles and bone. Magnesium is the second most abundant cation found inside cells, after potassium only, where it is essential for normal physiological function. Caruso’s Super Magnesium Powder provides 300mg of elemental magnesium (magnesium present after deducting the bonded molecules, such as citric acid) per 5g dose. 

Taurine has also been added to the formula as it is an important conditionally essential amino acid that assist with recovery from exercise, and has also been shown to stabilise ‘excitable’ muscle tissue. Taurine also functions as an antioxidant, and is great for reducing delayed-onset muscle soreness, which is that muscle pain that can occur 24-48 hours after strenuous exercise or after starting a new program of training.

Super Magnesium Powder includes essential minerals, including zinc, selenium and vitamin C, to support immune function and for their antioxidant properties, as well as silica to help improve soft and bony tissue integrity.
