Herbs of Gold Bergamot Cholesterol Care contains Bergamot extract, which is derived from a specific citrus fruit that looks a large rough-skinned lime. Citrus flavonoids have been researched for decades now, and are well known for their roles as natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents. Research also suggets that they have roles to play in preventing the oxidation of LDL cholesterol, which is a contributor to atheroscelrotic plaque build up^1,2.

More specific research is indicating the Citrus bergamia (Bergamot) are able to reduce LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, as well as decrease waist circumferance³. The researchers believed that the results were due to the particularly rich content of bioflavonoids, such as rutin, neohesperidin, neoeriocitrin and naringin. Bergamot is also known to reduce HMG-CoA reductase activity, which is an enzyme found in the liver, responsible for cholesterol synthesis. As HMG-CoA Reductase is also required for the synthesis of Coenzyme Q10, co-supplementation with this would be ideal.
