Amino X is a branched chain amino acid (BCAA) formula with L-Alanine, Taurine and Citrulline that comes in a great-tasting effervescent base.

The BSN Amino X benefits create a long list, given the effectiveness of the amino acid ingredients as ergogenic aids. The BCAAs, Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine, have been know throughout the industry for some time now as recovery amino acids that deliver results. Leucine is a crucial amino acid to any athlete or trainer as it is the main amino acid that regulates how potent all the other essential amino acids are. This role of Leucine is caused by its ability to switch on protein synthesis via intramuscular mTOR, where it also plays a fundamental role as a building block for protein synthesis.

Amino X provides 10g of amino acids per serve to prevent muscle breakdown during exercise and enhance recovery. It may be enjoyed during, before or after exercise, or throughout the day when training frequency and intensity are on the increase.

BSN Amino X Selling Points

Amino X contains 10 grams per 14.5 gram serve of an amino acid interfusion complex, composed of BCAAs, Alanine, Citrulline and Taurine, along with 2 grams of Efforsorb Endura Composite. The nutrition panel of this product indicates a proprietary blend of amino acids, which means we cannot determine the exact BCAA ratio of this product.

Malic acid may deliver some benefits to the anyone who ever experiences delayed onset muscle soreness. Though this ingredient is often used to add a tart quality to drinks, which helps with an aspect of the flavour profile, malic acid is a natural part of an energy cycle called the Krebs Cycle, as malate. Research is shows that malic acid supplementation can rectify a blockage at malate on the energy cycle, which can occur in sore muscles, thus supporting recovery.

Amino X Review

Amino X is one of the only effervescent amino acid supplements on the market giving it a specific point of difference. It comes in 7 great flavours including watermelon, grape, blue raspberry, green apple, fruit punch, strawberry dragonfruit and tropical pineapple that come in 1kg or 435 gram tubs of powder. Strawberry dragonfruit was one of our favourites, due to its unique refreshing appeal.

grape flavoured amino acid product

Amino X is caffeine-free, making it perfect for afternoon and evening trainers. It is also sugar-free, making it suitable for ketogenic programs and weight loss programs. 10 grams is a decent amount of amino acids, making it a great intra-workout for cellular energy production, fasting cardio and recovery.

Full disclosure of the BCAA content and ratios would have been nice, even though we do trust BSN. Perhaps even some glutamine in the formula would be a helpful addition, though most people have this amino acid covered already as a pure powder. Overall we definitely give this product a big thumbs up!

BSN Amino X vs Xtend

One of the biggest rivals for BSN Amino X is most definitely Xtend. Xtend delivers its BCAA’s in the scientifically researched 2:1:1 ratio.

One major difference between the two is the amount of BCAA’s themselves with Amino X delivering a proprietary blend of 10g per serve of a mixture of BCAAs, citrulline, taurine and alanine. On the other hand, Xtend delivers 7 grams per serve.

Xtend does provide both glutamine and citrulline malate in its formulation. In reality, it is hard to compare the two products, given that Amino X is a proprietary formula. It could be compared to assessing the bench press strength of two people, when one person does it behind a closed door. So you will have to make your own mind up on this one. Whilst Xtend offers more flavours, the effervescent BSN Amino X makes for a great tasting, refreshing intra-workout.

BSN Amino X Side Effects?

BSN Amino X is a well tolerated product, as it does not contain stimulants of any kind. Though side effects are rare, a close inspection of the ingredients, particularly the colours and flavours, is important if you have food or chemical sensitivities, intolerance or allergies.

When to Take BSN Amino X + Dosage

The best time to take BSN Amino X is during exercise to provide working muscles with the nutrients required to power ahead and keep anabolic. However you can take Amino X prior to or after your workout if you prefer. Mix 1 scoop with 250ml cold water.
