About Sinusitis Supplements
Sinusitis is an infection and inflammation of the sinuses, which are air-filled sacs within the bones of the face. Mucous can fill these small areas with inflammation of the sinus lining, which leads to discomfort and sometimes pain. Frontal headaches with the sensation of pressure inside the face and even aching of the teeth in the upper jaw can occur in extreme cases.
There are many causes of sinusitis, including cigarette smoke, bacterial infections and allergy. The cause of the condition typically determines the type of management approach that will be most helpful. For instance, an allergy-induced case of sinusitis often responds better to natural anti-allergy nutrients, such as quercetin and bromelains.
Quercetin is a bioflavonoid that inhibits leukotriene synthesis and helps to slow the allergic response. Quercetin is also a powerful natural anti-inflammatory. Bromelains increases the absorption of quercetin, and is also an anti-inflammatory protein-digestive enzyme. It found in the core of the pineapple and may assist in the breakdown of thick mucous that can get trapped in the sinuses. Both of these nutrients may assist in relieving sinusitis-related frontal headache and pressure by reducing inflammation, mucous and the overall allergic response of the immune system.
For viral or bacterial sinusitis, there are many natural herbal medicines and nutrients that assist not only with a slowing of the growth of the infection, but also the synthesis and activity of white blood cells (immune cells). Garlic is an excellent natural anti-bacterial and anti-viral, while zinc and vitamin C assist with white blood cell production and activity.
There are many approaches that can be taken in the treatment of sinutisits. Be sure to identify the cause before selecting the natural medicines that will be most helpful. As the old adage goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
