Herbs of Gold Ultra Omega 3 6 9 contains the two essential fatty acids linolenic acid (Omega 3) and linoleic acid (Omega 6), as well as other important "activated" fatty acids. These two former essential fatty acids are crucial for human health, playing important roles within the structure and function of the cell membranes, and for brain health. These important fats are believed to be the most important nutrients for the human body after only oxygen, water and the essential amino acids.
Yet, they tend to get neglected, perhaps due to an old association of fat with calories and obesity. However, it is essential to have some fats coming in through our diet, with the emphasis in the Omega 3 fatty acids, just as Herbs of Gold Ultra Omega 3 6 9 have done with their fatty acid ratios.
People living in developed nations tend to overconsume the Omega 6 fats, as they are present in high amounts in commonly consumed foods, such as wheat, meat and potatoes. It is believed that a more balanced ratio of these two essential fatty acids is essential, rather than the high Omega 6 to 3 ratio that most of us currently consume1.
In addition to the two essential fatty acids that are contained within Herbs of Gold Ultra Omega 3 6 9, this product also contains two downstream metabolites of linolenic acid, called eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These are activated versions of linolenic acid, and are found in seafoods, such as fatty fish like salmon and sardines.
Though there is no established RDI for these activated fats, they are essential for supporting optimal health and for the prevention of a number of chronic degenerative disease. DHA has actually been demonstrated to positively impact learning and behaviour in school2. Furthermore, linolenic acid itself is required for the prevention of chronic degenerative disease and has a neuroprotective effect3. Herbs of Gold Ultra Omega 3 6 9 contains 165mg of linolenic acid per capsule, with 100mg of EPA and DHA combined.
Herbs of Gold Ultra Omega 3 6 9 contains an activated Omega 6 fatty acid found in borage oil and evening primrose oil, called GLA, which has been used as an anti-inflammatory for the management of a number of inflammatory conditions, such as arthritis.
Herbs of Gold Ultra Omega 3 6 9 is an excellent product that is particularly useful when the diet is limited in important nutritional fatty acids, and also for the management of a number of chronic health maladies, as well as to support general wellness.
